Baw Baw Shire Council

WHY THEY NEEDED OUR SUPPORT & WHAT THEY WANTED TO GAIN

We required greater clarity around the key strategic priorities for our team, as well as stronger internal alignment across council. In particular, there was a need to build broader understanding and buy-in from other departments regarding the importance of events and the significant impact they have on the community.

WHAT THEY GAINED FROM PARTICIPATING

Through participating, I gained valuable insights into how councils can maximise the value of their events. The four weekly sessions were particularly beneficial, providing a deeper understanding of the Events team’s strategic direction and a clear framework centred on the six key pillars: attract, promote, empower, leverage, deliver and enable.

TOP 3 LEARNINGS/OUTCOMES

  1. A clear and structured strategy aligned to the six key pillars

  2. Improved understanding of which events best align with council objectives and community outcomes

  3. A practical and consistent approach to event planning through the Event Processes Audit checklist

Working with the Australian Centre for Regional Events has provided valuable clarity and direction in strengthening our Council’s event processes. The structured approach, particularly the focus on the six key pillars; attract, promote, empower, leverage, deliver and enable, has enhanced my understanding of how we can more effectively support community event organisers.

The four weekly sessions were highly informative and contributed to a deeper, organisation-wide understanding of the role and impact of events. The practical tools provided, including the Event Processes Audit, have supported a more consistent and strategic approach within our Council’s Events team.

Overall, this engagement will improve internal alignment and reinforced the importance of events in delivering meaningful outcomes for both event organisers and the broader community.
