About
Specifically for Councils and tourism organisations, the Destination Events Elevator Program focuses on boosting the event management knowledge and skills of a selected cohort of existing and emerging events within a regional destination.
Part online learning, part one-on-one intensive training, this 12-week hybrid program aims to ensure that events in a region are equipped with the capability to complement and support the overarching tourism and community objectives within their area.
The Destination Events Elevator Program is a unique opportunity for Councils and tourism organisations to
identify events that offer the most potential
support the ones that need targeted help to achieve their potential, and
foster growth in emerging events that could boost tourism opportunities within a region.
The 12 weeks of guided training and assessment is a mix of one-on-one online mentoring, group sessions and online learning. It covers the modules matched with intensive one-on-one event management coaching focused specifically on providing tailored support in the core areas each event needs it most. A comprehensive report is provided at the end of the program offering Councils a roadmap to plan their event strategy sustainably.

Impact in action
Since launching in 2016, the Esk Garden Fair has grown into a much-loved community event in the heart of Esk, bringing together more than 100 volunteers, specialist nurseries, expert speakers and garden art, while raising funds for local legacy projects such as the Esk Mosaic Trail. Through the Destination Elevate program, the committee strengthened its strategic planning, embraced new technology and more professional systems, and built greater confidence in delivering a successful, sustainable event with stronger community and business support.
Impact in action
Queensland Country Tourism partnered with the Australian Centre for Regional Events to deliver a tailored 12-month program designed to strengthen the competitiveness, professionalism and long-term sustainability of regional events across the region. Through training, mentoring and strategic planning support, participating events gained stronger foundations in marketing, governance, visitor experience, succession planning and community partnerships, helping them build more resilient and impactful events for the future.
