Accelerator event management training

About

Mullum Laneways was one of 15 events that undertook a six month Accelerator Regional Event Management Training Program developed and conducted by rEVENTS Academy for Byron Shire Council.

For this new event, three volunteers undertook the program to develop a community arts and creative festival for Mullumbumby that involved local artists, businesses, and the community.

 

Accelerator event management training program

Over six months the event organisers received:

  • One-day face to face event bootcamp.

  • 10 weeks of guided training, group check ins and intensive one-on-one event management coaching providing tailored support.

  • Lifetime access to an on-demand online event management training program.

  • Lifetime access to over 30 templates and resources to support event planning.

  • Networking opportunities with other events in Byron Shire.

  • Inspiration from best practice examples throughout regional Australia.

  • 12 hours of coaching.

  • In-person wrap up sessions.

  • A networking wrap up event.

 

Outcomes

During the program, major milestones were achieved for the development of Mullum Laneways

  • Established a filing system

  • Developed the framework of a strategic plan

  • Determined mission: Building a stronger community and a better place by bringing people together, sparking creativity, joy and openness through the arts.

  • Determined vision: Kaleido Mullumbimby is a celebration and expression of the creativity of the people that make Mullumbimby the multifaceted place that it is. For four hours on a Sunday afternoon / evening, Burringbar Street will be transformed in a magical place of music, dance, theatre, art, food and fun. A place that is engaging for all the family.

  • Set event date and name set

  • Developed brand, website, email and social media accounts

  • Produced a sponsorship package and Retail Activation Kit

  • Developed a schedule of entertainment with themed laneways, site plan and run sheets

  • Worked through compliance

  • Determined volunteer requirements and roles

  • Established a sustainable financial model based on multiple income streams.

The event itself was a great success!

Cristy Houghton

Cristy's unique career has taken her from country NSW to the city lights of Clarendon Street South Melbourne and back again. With an early career in radio as a copywriter and creative strategist, she is now a Jill of all trades as a graphic designer, website builder, blog writer, video editor, social media manager, marketing strategist and more.

Cristy has won two Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) for Best Ad and Best Sales Promotion, and even has an 'Employee of the Year' certificate with her name on it.

Cristy and her husband James have traveled extensively through Russia, China and South East Asia, and have two fur-babies, Sooty (cat) and Panda (puppy). Cristy loves drinking coffee, meeting people to drink coffee, coffee tasting and coffee flavoured cocktails. She also enjoys road trips, TED Talks and watching cat videos on youtube.
